Welcome to my homepage!
Originally from Duluth, Minnesota (shown above), I grew up
on a small lake spending my summers waterskiing and fishing. I
attended the University of Minnesota
and earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. After
graduation, I worked for Procter &
Gamble developing a highly-fortifed powdered beverage called
Nutristar, currently available in Venezuela. Then I studied transposable
genetic elements in Michael
Simmons's Drosophila laboratory. Having utilized statistics in
both of these jobs, I realized it would be crucial to have formal
education in the area so I matriculated in the Univ. of Minnesota Biostatistics program. I
received my master's degree in the summer of 2005 working with Brad Carlin on a thesis
entitled "Identifying and Evaluating Contrarian Strategies in NCAA
Tournament Pools." I am now a second-year graduate student in the Institute of Statistics and Decision
Sciences at Duke University
working with Mike West.
