STA 293.01 Spring 2006
Categorical Data Analysis
- Instructor:
- I. H. Dinwoodie, Old Chemistry 219
- The course will be about modeling discrete univariate and multivariate
data.
- Text:
- Simonoff, J. Analyzing Categorical Data. Springer, New York (2003),
ISBN 0-387-00749-0.
- This is an applied book with a presentation based on generalized linear models.
It refers to R and S-Plus for examples. Topics include generalized linear
models, logistic regression,
Poisson regression, and graphical models. Homework will be assigned each week, and there will be a mid-term and final exam.
The prerequisites are knowledge of linear algebra and multivariable calculus,
familiarity with standard probability distributions, and the willingness to learn and use
R or S-Plus for computations.
