At Duke
(August 2002, to present)
1999-2000: I bummed around the US for half a year before moving to San Diego in 2000 to live in a tent for eight months in the backyard of the house my sister Angela was renting with 5 other UCSD students. In September I hiked the John Muir Trail (220 miles) in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California with Angela.
2000-2001:Then I traveled in C. and S. America for eight months. I came back to live with my parents in Modesto, California and applied to graduate schools for statistics Ph.D. programs.
2002-: I visited the schools (Stanford, Berkeley, Harvard, UWashington) in early 2002 and chose Duke. Then I went to Africa for six months. Since August 2002, I've been a graduate student living in Durham, North Carolina.
