Typical Pathways Through the Major and Minor
Students are advised to select elective
courses for the major or minor in accordance with their interests. STA
104, 114, 121, or 122 (these are required for the major) have wide
applicability and so are recommended for any student. Sta 190,
Research Seminar, is required for the major and also counts toward the
minor. Other electives based on students' interests are suggested in
the table below. Courses are listed in decreasing order of strength of
connection with the field, e.g., a course on survey methods is likely
to be highly useful for students interested in sociology. This advice
is not intended to be dogmatic; students can select any eligible
courses to complete their major. The Director of Undergraduate Studies
and the student's individual faculty advisor will help students design
a curriculum that best meets the student's educational goals.
