New Student Orientation

The Department of Statistical Science new student orientation is organized by the GCC and is typically held the Friday prior to the first week of classes. During the orientation, new students are introduced to faculty and staff of the department. Students are also oriented with respect to class selection, computing, finances, being a TA, choosing advisor, etc.

After the orientation, all students join in a scavenger hunt activity around campus. This activity is to serve as an introduction to Duke West campus as well as provide an opportunity for new students to get to know their classmates.

Finally, a progressive dinner is set up that evening wherein students visit homes of faculty members.
