Final Project Guideline

The final project consists of a data analysis of a real data set
using the statistical methods covered in class. You should choose a
data set that is of interest to you. You are encouraged to find data
yourself for the project. If you are unable to find a data set, I will
assign one. Analyze the data using exploratory data
analysis, traditional inference techniques and
clustering/classification/multiple testing procedures if necessary.

Your report should consist of two part. The first part is the
executives summary and will contain (1) a succinct statement of the
scientific question you want to address with the data, (2) a
brief description of the data and (3) translate the scientific question
into a statistical problem and describe which statistical tools you want
to use to analyze the data. The deadline for the Part I submission is March 10.

The second part is (1) a brief description of your conclusion and (2)
the technical appendix containing details for the analysis including
relevant plots, tables (always use plots if possible) and necessary
computer output. Part II should be at most 10 pages. The deadline for
the second part is April 21. Please email me to schedule a meeting
whenever necessary. I prefer the final project written up in LaTeX,
but a word processor like MS-word is also fine. Please label all
output,plots, variables, etc., appropriately.

Your grade on the final project will be very subjective and will
depend on selecting and adhering to a logical and readable format for
the report.
