| ASSESSMENT |
Homeworks will be posted on the course Web site and due in no later than the start of the class indicated (late homeworks will not be accepted). Please be encouraged to tackle homeworks as soon as possible, well in advance of deadlines, and hand them in prior to the deadline. There will be plenty of lead-time. Homeworks supplement lectures and the book, and will be used to review important material and provide practice with basic manipulation of statistical models (mathematically and computationally). Additional exercises and worked examples in the book(s) and discussed in class should be mastered -- the only way to truly learn is by example after example.
Homeworks will include some basic/routine material and some more demanding/challenging parts of questions. You are encouraged to discuss homework problems and issues with other students, and even work in pairs and small groups on some questions. You learn as much from your mistakes, and those of your peers, as you will from class. Please be clear, however, that homework solutions written up and handed in must be your own final work on the problems. Respect the Honor Code.
The Exams are cumulative, any can be expected to investigate any aspects of statistical modelling and inference covered in the course. They will be open book, and may require a small amount of calculation with hand-calculators. The style and format of homeworks will be useful predictors of the style and format of exam questions (though the exams will obviously not include questions requiring the use of computers, unlike homeworks).
