Grading:
The final grade will be based on two midterm exams, the final exam, and a lab score based on quizzes and computing assignments. Each Thursday an interesting quiz will be offered based on homework exercises. The four scores will be weighted equally in the final grade.
A calculator will be necessary for exams and quizzes. Some limits will be placed on the type of calculator.
There will be two computing assignments involving simulation and modelling. Computing exercises are required in this section.
You will need to move files, and you will need to use a math program that will do histograms and descriptive statistics, and generate random numbers. Minitab is recommended as the easiest to use. (S-Plus is a more complete package, and there is a free knock-off R.) Other math programs may be suitable, such as Matlab with the statistics toolbox.
